F1 | Daniel Ricciardo to miss last day of testing as he tests positive for COVID-19
Daniel Ricciardo has become the latest driver to test positive for the coronavirus.
Daniel Ricciardo’s preparations for the new season have been thrown off course as the Australian has tested for COVID-19.
The Australian had yet to be seen during the second test in Bahrain as he had been feeling unwell and McLaren confirmed in a statement this evening that the 32-year-old is positive for the virus.
Nonetheless, should he be fine next weekend, the 8-time Grand Prix winner will be allowed to take part in the opening race of the season.
Lando Norris will get a third consecutive day of running tomorrow because of the Aussie’s absence.
McLaren has had a tricky test on circuit too, as brake problems have limited the team to short runs. Norris has only been able to complete 110 laps for the team – the least of all 10 squads so far.
“McLaren Racing can confirm that after feeling unwell from Wednesday onwards in Bahrain, Daniel Ricciardo has now returned a positive PCR test for covid-19," the team said in a statement.
“Daniel is therefore continuing to isolate in accordance with local regulations.
“Under these regulations Daniel will be released in time for next weekend’s Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. Daniel is already beginning to feel better, and we wish him well for a quick recovery.
“Following this, we can confirm that Lando Norris will remain in the MCL36 for the final day of the official pre-season test in Bahrain tomorrow.”
