Williams' Team Principal and AD Jost Capito had joined the team at the end of 2020, taking over Frank and Claire Williams's legacy. Under his guide, after three years at the very back of the grid, in 2021 the driver lineup of Nicholas Latifi and George Russell scored 23 points, Russell snatching even an extremely unlikely podium at Spa with his great qualifying skills.

But what will happen in 2022, with a completely new car project, regulation changes and Russell's move to Mercedes prompting the signing of Alexander Albon? The TP himself isn't sure of it, as he said to MotorLAT and other selected medias:

"I think last year was already the first proper year of the new era, of course it was a carry over car, and now we have built a completely new car,  the team has done a completely new car for quite a while. As per the new regulations, we're quite stable for a number of years, so we will see."

As the only team not able to test the new 18-inches Pirelli tyres before last week, the first Barcelona "shakedown" was extremely important not only to introduce the new driver to his crew and present the FW44, but also to collect data on their evolution.

"We have no idea of where we are right now, but we will see," he concluded,

Eyes on the future of the sport, Capito also reorganised the Williams Driver Academy, a junior team project that aims to bring young, talented drivers in the top single seater championship, as it happened with Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi in the past years.

The first signings of the new era are the 2020 F3 championship runner up Logan Sargeant, who will be competing in Formula 2 with Carlin and Zak O'Sullivan, GB3 Champion and set to join Carlin for his first season in Formula 3.

The Team Principal explained what perks they will get, alongside other existing members, as part of the Academy, especially considering the fact that from 2022 every team will have to make young drivers take part in at least two free practice sessions during the season:

"We're starting with the Academy, we have a couple of young drivers, they will do camps, they get media training, physical camps, they work together and also we try to get them as quick as possibly into a Formula 1 car as well, but we give them time, we're not putting too much pressure on them, and we're just starting that, so we will see how that evolves."

"It has now a proper structure, we have a program in place for the whole year, it's all approved and I'm sure we will see progress, not in the first half of the year but in the next two, three years.

Other drivers that were previously involved with Williams' young drivers project might still have a role in it in the near future, like Roy Nissany and Jack Aitken, who both did F1 tests and practice sessions in 2021.

Another talented driver in the Williams rooster is two- time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick. Asked on whether Chadwick is still a part of the Academy and if she will be taking part in FP sessions with the team, he replied:

"Yeah, we still have the relationship with Jamie, she's still in our academy and we'll see how she develops. We have now a proper academy, we do training camps for them, and Jamie will be part of these camps."

"We will see how she develops and then decide during the season what the next steps are."

Chadwick has recently announced that she will return to W Series for her third season, lining up for the newly introduced Jenner Racing Team to defend her title and citing financial reasons to explain not moving to a different FIA feeder series.

Capito also commented on her future and remarking the support that Williams is offering to her:

"I think that's pretty much up to her and how she sees her career develops, I think she had quite a couple of options, and if she decided to be in Formula W [W Series] again then it's her decision and we support her decision. But if she has got the objective to go in F1 then at a certain point she has to go through Formula 3 and Formula 2 for sure."
