F1 | RB18 has “good potential”, says Perez at the end of Barcelona testing
At the end of the first pre-season testing Sergio Perez believes Red Bull starts the season with a “good baseline” that puts the roots for further improvements throughout the year.
Drivers got a first taste of the new cars last week in Barcelona and Sergio Perez seems quite satisfied with the work the team has put on the RB18 him and his teammate Max Verstappen will be driving this season.
“I think we’ve got a good baseline. I definitely think we have good potential,” he commented.
“It’s obviously very early days, I really hope we are able to make a good step in Bahrein and just keep progressing from all the informations that we’re gonna gather from here.”
The Red Bull driver set the third fastest time of the pre-season testing at the Catalunya Circuit, putting himself just behind George Russell and pacesetter Lewis Hamilton.
Good signals are there, nonetheless Perez is looking at things one step at a time, concentrating on improving as the championship goes on and make the most out of the car.
“I think it’s a progression throughout the year. It’s important to just keep making progress, keep learning from my driving, the way I’m adapting to the car and the team what’s the best way to maximise it [the car],” he said.
“I think it’s going to be quite a different challenge from qualifying to race day. You have seen these cars, so I think it’s going to be a challenge to maximise the whole weekend.”
Red Bull is looking for a repeat of last season’s success and another chance to grab a Constructors' title that has been missing from Milton Keynes since 2013.
