F1 | Ferrari unveils the new F1-75
The team launched its 2022 car, a blend of history and innovation for what Team Principal Mattia Binotto calls a “brave Ferrari”.
A sleek red and black livery, a newly developed PU, a very slender pointed nose and sidepods that highlight a rather unique approach, quite distinct from what we have seen on other single-seaters so far. This is the F1-75, Ferrari’s new car for the upcoming season that has been unveiled to the public this Thursday. A season full of expectations for the Scuderia after many years of struggles and the most awaited car since the regulation change has been announced.
“I must admit that, personally, I’m excited about it, as this car is a product of the effort, dedication and passion of each one of us. It’s down to the work of a group of people who have invested everything in this car, working with courage, creativity and team spirit,” said Team Principal Mattia Binotto during the launch.
“We have tackled the challenge of this project with an innovative approach, because, apart from the requirements of the completely new technical regulations, we believe that we had to take on this exercise with an open mind.”
Looking at the F1-75 it is quite clear that the team went all in for a more radical and aggressive design.
“The bodywork is where we’ve got most of the changes. That’s because that’s where the regulations give one the most freedom. If you look at that one [the car], at least for me, it’s quite impressive.”
“No pylons, which is strange because we’ve been used in the past years to use them, so it’s quite a different one. I think this is my favourite part of the car, you can really see how much work has gone into the bodywork. It looks impressive, it looks extreme and I like that,” commented Leclerc.
The main focus, however, has been put into the development of a new Power Unit, something Ferrari has been struggling with since the controversies of 2019.
“A lot of effort has gone into the power unit and its packaging is completely different, especially in terms of the cooling. We worked a lot on the power unit over this winter, on top of what we did last year, because we knew it would be a key element,” explained Binotto.
“So, there’s been a lot of innovative work on the combustion engine and we have further developed the hybrid part that we introduced last season. I think under here there is a lot going on that’s new. It’s covered, but the innovation is definitely there.”
“The suspension has also undergone some development. The aero concept, the rear wing for example, is very different from the past. In terms of shape, at least for me, it’s quite incredible the work which has been done.”
The car no longer features the Mission Winnow logo, while it has a logo celebrating 75 years since the release of the first Ferrari, the 125 S. A black logo that blends in well with the black of the Halo, the numbering and both front and rear wings.
But the eye-catching innovative detail on the F1-75 seems to be sidepods.

“It called on all our know-how, our creativity and above all our commitment. This is what I would call a brave Ferrari, because we have interpreted the rules thinking outside of the box,” continued Binotto.
“We know that expectations are high and that, in recent years, the results have not lived up to what is expected of Ferrari. We went in a new direction back in 2019 and, even if there have been some difficult moments along the way, it has made us a stronger and more unified team and this car is the perfect expression of all our efforts.”
Both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz seemed satisfied with the new single-seater and hopeful to see it run fast on track, as did President John Elkann.
“The F1-75 represents the very best in the innovative team spirit and the quest for performance that the Scuderia has always exemplified and that has driven the performance of our road cars for the last 75 years,” he commented.
And it’s his message to the Tifosi that closed the launch.
“Your passion and commitment fuels our performance as it always has. This year, we look forward to rewarding your loyalty and returning to our winning ways.”
