The American team will sport a livery with colours similar to those of the previous season, but the final result is quite different as 2022 will feature heavy regulation changes.

Haas is the first team to present their concept livery for the 2022 season, which will involve a new generation of more sustainable engines. The American team has released pictures of the rendering of the new car on their social media, as announced yesterday.

The team has decided to stick with the same colour scheme for the livery as last season's, collaborating once again with designer Brandon Seaver to renovate the predominantly white livery with red and blue inserts, and the name of both their main sponsors Haas and Uralkali are featured on the rear wing in the images.

This is also a first look at the new, more aerodynamic shapes introduced with the regulations change that will be sported by all constructors, as both the front and rear wing will sport a rather different, "dramatic" look. 2022 will also feature for the first time the 18-inch Pirelli low-profile tyres, which also contribute to the novelty of the challenger.

Team Founder Gene Haas has introduced the VF-22 in a statement issued by the American constructor on their website, highlighting the focus the team has placed on the upcoming season and the amount of work and planification that went into the challenger:

"It’s that time of year where you’re naturally optimistic that the hard work and effort of everyone will translate to a competitive entry on track. We made the decision back in 2020 to really channel time and resources into the VF-22, foregoing anything track-related for 2021 – which wasn’t easy to watch."

Haas is cautiously optimistic on the future performances of the team, and feels like they will significantly improve from the last season, where at the time rookie drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin failed to score points:

"Hopefully that decision bears fruit and we return to challenging for points and taking something from the weekends."

The VF-22 was the first car projected under the lead of newly appointed Technical Director Simone Resta, who joined last season from Ferrari. The Italian engineer explained the hardships encountered in the making of the challenger:

"This is probably the most complex project the Uralkali Haas F1 Team has dealt with to-date for many reasons. It’s a completely new set of regulations and this season we’ve brought in a new team to manage the creation of the VF-22."

Resta is positive about the final outcome, but it wasn't an easy way coming for the Ferrari client team that has signed a good number of former Scuderia employees after the introduction of the budget cap: "Not everyone is new but a good chunk of people have joined with a revised structure now in place. I consider this as a great success in the process."

"We’re still early in the project and going through a transitional season of working together on a car for a full year, but if we look back where we started, this team is already a success," he summed up.

Team Principal Günther Steiner believes the 2022 season can turn out to be as good as some of Haas's previous experiences in F1:

“We all know what the team is capable of, we’ve proved that in the past, and with this new car – born out of a completely new set of regulations and with our new design team in place, I’m confident we can showcase once again that we can compete on weekends."

Steiner auspicates the team to rejoin the midfield fight, after having sacrificed the 2021 season, never upgrading the challenger, in order to properly plan the new regulations:

"It’s been a tremendous effort by everyone involved and now comes the fun part of getting the new car to the circuit and dialing in all the elements." "Last season was a long one but I’m confident that 2022 will see us back in the mix with the VF-22," he concluded.
