F1 | Mercedes says 2022 challenger passed crash tests on January 13th
Rumours had surfaced from websites that the W13 had failed its crash tests and would need to do it again. However, this was shut down by the Brackley-based team today.
Mercedes confirmed on Monday that their 2022 challenger passed the FIA crash tests on January 13th.
Motorsport Italy had reported that they had failed the crash tests, but this turned out to be false.
“For clarity, [the] W13 completed its FIA homologation process on 13 January 2022; the relevant procedures for this (which have changed somewhat for this season, including a reinforced side squeeze test) are captured in Article 13 of the 2022 Technical Regulations,” Mercedes said on Monday.
The eight-time defending Constructors’ Champions are due to unveil the W13 on February 18th in a virtual event at Silverstone, five days before F1 Testing kicks off behind closed doors at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Heading into a new era of F1, Mercedes have also made a change to their driver line-up with George Russell joining Lewis Hamilton at the team for 2022.
