F1 | McLaren the latest team to announce date for their 2022 challenger
McLaren's 2022 car will be unveiled on February the 11th.
McLaren have become the third team to announce the date of the launch of their 2022 car.
The event will take place on the 11th of February at 19:00 UK time.
As well as the presentation of the MCL36 with Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, the Woking-based team will also be including their IndyCar [Pato O’Ward and Felix Rosenqvist], Extreme E [Emma Gilmour and Tanner Foust] and eSports teams.
McLaren had a breakthrough 2021 campaign as Daniel Ricciardo’s win at Monza was the team’s first since the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.
The 1-2 finish at the Italian GP was also their first since the 2010 Canadian Grand Prix, when Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were at the wheel.
Lando Norris also secured his maiden pole position in 2021 and the first for McLaren in almost nine years [Hamilton, Brazilian GP 2012].
Speaking in Abu Dhabi, Andrea Stella spoke of the positives in 2021 and the upward trajectory of the team.
“For us the season has been positive. The main objective of this season was to confirm the upward trajectory of the team overall; not only the technical aspect.
“I think from both the technical aspect and the team overall, we can confirm that this upward trajectory is there.”
While McLaren don’t expect to challenge for the title this year as they’re “still quite young as an organisation” and “got investments coming to catch up to be state of the art and several new facilities,” to match the likes of Ferrari, who beat them to P3 in the standings last year.
Nonetheless, the team will be looking to consolidate their position in the top 3 or 4 in the Constructors’ Championship in 2022.
Four racing teams. One epic team launch.
