F1 | Marcin Budkowski leaves Alpine F1 Team
The 44-year old has left the Enstone-based squad after a 4-year stint with the team. It's expected Otmar Szafnauer will join the team to replace the vacancy left by the Pole.
Following the departure of Cyril Abiteboul in early 2021, Alpine faces another change as their Executive Director Marcin Budkowski has left the team.
The Pole joined the Enstone-based outfit after leaving his FIA post in 2017 and was handed the executive technical director initially when he started working for the team, before stepping up to a bigger role when Abiteboul exited.
The highlight of his time as with Alpine came at the Hungarian Grand Prix last year when Esteban Ocon scored a memorable win; the first for the Enstone squad since Kimi Räikkönen’s win at the 2013 Australian Grand Prix.
In a statement posted by Alpine, they said: "Alpine F1 Team and Marcin Budkowski, Executive Director of Alpine F1 Team, announced today their decision to end their collaboration as of January 13th 2022."
"Laurent Rossi will temporarily ensure the team’s management to allow everyone to focus on the next season’s preparation.”
It is expected that Otmar Szafnauer, who recently left Aston Martin, is going to take the reins at Alpine. Budkowski could be heading in the other direction.
