F1 | Ferrari hoping its 2022 car will be fighting with Mercedes and Red Bull
Mattia Binotto believes that next year the Prancing Horse team’s car will be winning, thanks to its building with an “open mind”
Binotto cannot be satisfied with this year’s performances. Even if Ferrari got out with a third place in the Constructors’ Championship.
The new engine introduced in Russia helped them greatly but there is so much to do yet. The Prancing Horse team principal talked with the Italian top magazine “Il Corriere” and he was generous in giving themselves a vote for the season.

“This season we deserve a vote of 7 out of 10 for the way we have been growing, in a linear, continuous way, despite the frozen regulations” – Binotto affirms. “And the drivers, they deserve an eight – he continues – but clearly we cannot feel satisfied.”
Looking at the future, the 2022 will be dominated by the aerodynamics as the rules are still uncertain. Binotto defines “unacceptable” the hypothesis to repeating this season’s performances.
“That would be unacceptable repeating this year’s performances, at Abu Dhabi it was painful to watch the others celebrating. We will come back to fight for the pole and for victories, - he assures – Ferrari cannot start again so low-tone and the cycles are to build, just like victories and we want to win a lot. Nevertheless, the world title soon is not an obligation.”
At this point, it looks necessary to talk about the new car. The Italian affirms that it is ready to face the challenge and it is revolutionary, as a fruit of an “open-minded” strategy.
“In the wind gallery we tried a hundred of different concepts before we deliberated the definitive solutions; it is a completely innovative concept.”
What about the drivers?
“We have invested on Charles for the future. We will be sitting with Carlos to talk about the renewal: he settled in greatly! They push each other.”
