F1 | Abu Dhabi GP | Bottas’ farewell race with Mercedes ends in P6 and the Finn feels sorry for Hamilton’s ending of the season: ''Mixed emotions''
On his last race with Mercedes, Bottas ended the race in P6, maintaining his qualifying result and gaining 8th consecutive constructors championship
Valtteri Bottas, ended today his experience with the Brackley’s team, Mercedes after 5 years. The Finn has already a seat for next year with Alfa Romeo, after Kimi Raikkonen’s farewell to F1 today.
Bottas helped his team through the year to achieve their 8th consecutive constructors' championship, but feels like he couldn’t help too much, his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who lost out on his 8th Wold Championship today on the final lap to Red Bull’s young man, Max Verstappen.
Overall, Bottas has not experienced his best weekend with the car, as since yesterday’s qualifying he showed a significant lack of pace compared to previous races due to using an older power unit.
Soon after the race, the Finn commented: ”Overtaking was tricky today. Maybe I could end up with a podium, if it wasn’t for the safety car. I was catching Sainz.”
Valtteri Bottas is “happy” about his team’s achievement of the 8th constructors' championships in the turbo-hybrid era, but at the same time feels sorry for his team-mate who could not set the record of world titles today.
Bottas during post-race interviews talked about some “mixed feelings” he was going through after the Abu Dhabi GP, in Yas Marina: “We ended up having our 8th constructors championship, which is a great achievement, but you know although it’s not me, I think Lewis as a driver deserved the world title. Mixed emotions at the moment, but I think I need just some time to rest and refresh.”
The Finn ended with today’s race after a long time together with both Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, and is ready to start a new chapter with Alfa Romeo, and new teammate Guanyu Zhou, the Chinese youngster arriving from F2.
