F1 | Abu Dhabi GP | Formula 1 will be racing at Yas Marina until 2030
A title to assign, a new layout and a renewed contract that will keep the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on the calendar until the 2030 season.
Ahead of this weekend’s season finale Formula 1 has announced a contract renewal that will see the one seaters racing in Abu Dhabi until the end of the decade. The circuit was introduced in the calendar in 2009 and it will continue to be part of it until 2030.
“We are delighted to confirm that we will be racing in Abu Dhabi until 2030 under this new agreement. We are hugely looking forward to the season finale this weekend when more Formula 1 history will be made,” commented the news Formula 1 CEO and President Stefano Domenicali.
“The promoter, ADMM, always creates an incredible show for the final race of every F1 season and combined with the changes made to improve the racing on the Yas Marina Circuit we are excited for many years of racing in Abu Dhabi that is ahead of us.”
The track has undergone some significant changes that are aimed at providing drivers more chances for overtakes. The new Yas Marina is shorter – 5.28 kms- and has increased speeds and loads around some corners, corners that were reduced from 21 to 16.
“The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Yas Marina Circuit continue to introduce hundreds of millions of spectators and TV viewers to Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates,” said Saif Al Noaimi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management.
“The signing of a new multi-year deal with the Formula One Group not only represents the strength of our relationship but reaffirms our commitment to delivering an unparalleled and world-class race weekend experience for all visitors to enjoy.”
Lewis Hamilton is the driver with most wins – 5 – around this circuit, last year however Max Verstappen dominated the entire weekend starting from pole position and securing a win.
This season is set to be a quite thrilling fixture that will decide the title, as the two contenders head to Abu Dhabi with 369.5 points each, and will mark the end of Kimi Raikkonen’s Formula 1 journey.
