Ever since the Monaco GP, the last race where Giovinazzi scored points until today, the Italian in the Alfa Romeo came close many times to a points finish but never got them. Today, at the first-ever Saudi Arabian GP in Jeddah, Antonio Giovinazzi got the points he was looking for.

He ended his race in P9, after a very strong weekend with Alfa in both free practice sessions on Friday and the qualifying session on Saturday. Giovinazzi had been running as high as 7th at one stage but was ultimately passed by the Ferraris as he bagged two points ahead of his F1 farewell in Abu Dhabi.

Soon after the GP, Giovinazzi commented: “It feels great to be back on the points. Last time was in Monaco. Every time we were so close but we never made it. Today I was happy. Overall it was a good weekend for me. Qualifying yesterday, the race after the restart gave us some positions; I spent half of the race in front of both Ferrari’s, but then in the end they were too quick and I ended up in P9. For myself it was very good, now just one left, but I’m really happy for today”

A very unlucky season for the Italian driver, as many times he lost good positions due to DNFs and lack of power: “Finally a bit of luck. But every since FP1 we were very quick and FP2 and FP3 we struggled a bit but the pace came back during qualifying and so did today so yes I’m happy with my result and what we achieved.
