F1 | São Paulo GP | Pierre Gasly on his Sprint Qualifying: ”A terrible start.”
The AlphaTauri driver wasn’t pleased with today’s performance after yesterday’s good driving in the qualifying session, and hopes to make up for it in tomorrow’s race.
Sprint Qualifying doesn't seem to be Pierre Gasly's favourite format, as, after his first lap crash at Monza that had forced him to start at the back of the grid, he had another rather difficult session, marking a strong contrast with yesterday's driving performance in the qualifying session, described by him as "Probably one of my best this year".

not the easiest of days for the #F1Sprint, but points are handed out tomorrow 💪 @PierreGASLY P8@yukitsunoda07 P15 pic.twitter.com/Y1WNs0HkLS
The Frenchman was starting in P4, only behind the Red Bulls and Bottas's Mercedes due to Hamilton's disqualification, but dropped many positions at the start and wasn't able to recover them in the remaining 23 laps, ending the qualifying in P8.
Gasly was disappointed by his start, as he said in AlphaTauri's post Sprint Qualyfing debrief:"We had a terrible start today, I lost three positions into Turn 1 and just didn’t have the pace to come back at the Ferraris and McLaren."
However, nothing's lost at the moment, and he hopes to do better tomorrow and get hold of some good points, extremely important to advance Alpine in P5, which has scored the same amount of points as the Italian team, in the constructors's standings:
"It clearly wasn’t the start of the race we expected, so we’ll look at what we can do better for tomorrow. That wasn’t the easiest day for us, especially as the last few laps on the soft tyre were really difficult," Gasly said, highlighting the graining issues other drivers brought up as well.
The 2020 Italian GP winner is hopeful for tomorrow's race, and ready to fight:
"As you know, it’s never over until the chequered flag, so we’ll look at the strategy tonight and do everything we can to come back stronger tomorrow," he concluded.
