F1 | Mexican GP | Vettel content with solid finish and “decent pace” for his points finish
Some incidents and a good pace helped Vettel to come back to a solid finish and good points from the race in Mexico
The Mexican Grand Prix has been quite an entertaining race. Many drivers committed mistakes. Valtteri Bottas lost his pole – position start to Max Verstappen and then he suffered from a spin that catapulted him on the back of the grid, Daniel Ricciardo had to face a damage on his car. Even Lewis Hamilton, instead of going for a win as he is used to, had a difficult time as he had to cherish his second place from an on-fire Red Bull’s Checo Perez who was getting closer and closer until the chequered flag.
For Sebastian Vettel, instead, things went differently. The Aston Martin driver managed to finish the race getting in the bag some good points and a solid performance. The German is aware to have been helped by others’ disgraces but most of all, he states to be happy with his pace, which is not where he wanted it to be yet but it has been “decent”.
Mexico, it's been incredible. 💚

"I am quite happy with our performance today, – he revealed – We had shown competitive long-run pace on Friday and I knew that if we could hold position on lap one, we would be able to stay there and score points.”
“We obviously benefited from the spin for Valtteri [Bottas], although it actually held me up a bit, and the damage to Daniel's [Ricciardo] car, but we managed to recover a position from [Antonio] Giovinazzi using the strategy - he continues - After that, I was on my own for most of the race with decent pace. It was a solid weekend by the team and I am pleased we could score some good points.”
