F1 | Mexico GP | Lewis Hamilton defeated by Verstappen: “Nothing we could do to fight against Red Bull”
An unexpected turn of events for Mercedes today at the Mexican Gp, as Bottas is out of points and Hamilton got beaten by a very quick Red Bull
After a super strong qualifying, the team from Brackley had to face a very hard race in Mexico today. Both of the Mercedes drivers started from the front row, but as soon as the race started everything fell apart, as Bottas lost his position and after a contact with Daniel Ricciardo, dropped in the last position. Hamilton on his side, as Verstappen occupied the first position, couldn’t do anything to fight against him, but in the end managed to keep behind the home hero, Sergio Perez.
Hamilton sounded disappointed after the race, and commented: “I gave it everything. I just didn’t have the pace”.
The English driver is sure Red Bull had much more pace than Mercedes this weekend: “Their car was far superior this weekend and there’s nothing I could really do about it”.
He offered his congratulations to the race winner, Max Verstappen, and told how much he enjoyed fighting with Perez in the last part of the race: “I gave everything, and I had a great fight with Sergio at the end. Overall I’m happy I ended up second. I didn’t really feel the pressure. I experienced these kind of situations before so it was easy to just hold on."
Despite his experience , Lewis Hamilton thinks this weekend, Red Bull was undefeatable: “You could see how fast their car was, when Sergio was close behind and able to pull that close. He did a great job and I enjoyed the race still.”
Champions don’t quit. ✊ Fought against a pair of faster cars on the day and still came away with P2 and 18 championship points for the Team.
