F1 | Logan Sargeant joins Williams' driver academy ''as part of a long-term agreement''
The rising star from the United States has signed for Williams after showing his talent in FIA Formula 3 over the last two seasons.
Following the departure of Dan Ticktum from the Williams driver academy earlier in the year, American Logan Sargeant has been added to the roster.
The 20-year-old has been impressive in the junior formulas in recent times, finishing 3rd in last year’s FIA Formula 3 championship, narrowly missing out on the title to Prema teammate Oscar Piastri by just four points.
He impressed once again in F3 in 2021 as he scored 105 of Charouz’s 127 points across the season as he finished a strong P7 in the standings; it was topped off by a fine win during sprint race 1 at Sochi.
Sargeant had been due to test with IndyCar team AJ Foyt Racing, but that was ultimately called off because of the deal announced with Williams.
Williams said in the press release that ''as an Academy Driver, Logan will utilise his experience to conduct simulator work and help with car development as part of a long-term agreement, becoming fully immersed into the team both trackside and at the factory in Grove. The 20-year old's plans for the 2022 season will be announced in due course.''
