The 2022 Formula One season is set to be a record-breaking one as the FIA has announced a 23-race schedule for next year.  

As was the case this year, the Sakhir International Circuit in Bahrain will kickstart the season, as Saudi Arabia moves from the penultimate race of 2021 to round 2 in 2022 to complete a double-header. 

Australia is pencilled in for round 3 as the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne attempts to host its first race since 2019 and the first since modifications to the street circuit were made. 

The biggest news to come from today’s calendar is that Imola is going to take the place of Shanghai next year as the pandemic continues to disrupt the sport from creating a normal schedule. 

Miami is set to host its debut event on May 8th, round 5 of the championship. 

Along with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, there is set to be a whopping seven double-headers across 2022, including Azerbaijan and Canada & Brazil and Abu Dhabi. 

The ten teams will also face two triple-headers: Belgium, Netherlands and Italy & Russia, Singapore and Japan. 

As well as Australia, Canada, Singapore and Japan are hoping to host their first races in three after years after the pandemic began in early 2020.

“The 2022 season follows an unprecedented two years for Formula 1 in which the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in revised calendar of 17 races in 2020 and 22 races in 2021 – a huge achievement given the international nature of the sport.

“The pandemic has continued to present challenges to the 2021 season, but the entire sport has shown its ability to react and adapt to the challenges as they have arisen. 

“While we hope the virus recedes further in the coming months for everyone around the world, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and work closely with the promoters and national authorities.”
