F1 | Turkish GP | “We achieved everything we could in the end,” says Norris about Sunday’s race
The young brit driver took on the positives from a wet race in Turkey after managing to finish 7th place and taking home six points for him and the team.
Istanbul Park Circuit was home to the 16th race of the Formula 1 2021 season. Weather made drivers change their tyre compound to intermediates, but that did not stop the McLaren team from claiming six points for the championship after Lando Norris finished on P7 and teammate Daniel Ricciardo on P13.
On Saturday’s qualifying, Lando managed to get 8th place, but because of Lewis Hamilton’s grid penalty, he got to start the race one spot ahead (P7). Despite it being a somewhat difficult weekend for McLaren, Norris says he is pleased with the results he and the whole papaya team accomplished after the wet race. Crucially for the Woking-based squad, he finished ahead of Carlos Sainz after the Spaniard stormed through the field on Sunday.
“A very long and tough race today mainly because of the conditions. It was very difficult to keep the Inters in a good window during the race, but I think we achieved everything we could in the end, so I have to be happy with P7.
''It was damage limitation for us at this track, but we came away with the best result that we could. So, happy with that and we just need to make more improvements for the next one. It’s important we recover and keep pushing next time out!” stated Norris, who after this race remains fourth on the 2021 driver standings.
Tricky weekend but let’s look forward, not back. Austin is next. 👊🇺🇸 #TurkishGP pic.twitter.com/ErhSMA8M9B
