F1 | Russian GP | Steiner happy with the job done and hoping for a little bit of rain
Mick Schumacher gave his team principal a reason to smile today.
MotorLat had Access to an online meeting with Guenther Steiner. The team Principal shared his view on today´s activity and the performance of his drivers.
Mick Schumacher impressed, finishing P17 as he split the Alfa Romeos in Q1. Nikita Mazepin had a session to forget as he was by far the slowest in the first segment of qualifying.
Steiner was happy with the improvement his team made after a complicated season “that shows the guys are learning which is the most important thing…today Mick was close to Kimi. It gives a little satisfaction for the weekend.” Happy to fight with another team, he added, “I think they are getting better each race weekend.”
When asked by MotorLat about how close he thinks the battle with Alfa could be tomorrow Guenther agreed with Mick on the weather conditions as a crucial factor “It depends a little bit if it´s still wet or not. If it´s dry, I don´t think we can take the fight to them. If it rains, as we saw today maybe we can hold our own. Hopefully there´s a little bit of wet that we can play a little bit with them.”
Steiner was surprised by the close margin between Raikkonen and Schumacher as less than three-tenths of a second separated them: “I was surprised we all know how good Kimi is in these circumstances.”
