F1 | Russian GP | Russell eyes a podium finish in the race : “It’s nothing to lose”
After granting Williams another third place in Qualifying, George Russell sets his eyes on a confirmation of that great spot in the race as well
The promotion to Mercedes for the next season has turned George Russell on fire: after granting for the second time in four races a third position in the Qualifying, the Brit is looking for a consolidation of this result during a race. A task which is not easy to get, as the uncertain weather conditions are threating the event to take place and many things can happen in an unsual, wet race.
The 23-year old feels ready to give it a try, though, as he keeps thanking Williams for giving him a seat during these years and he wants to show his potential off and close his career in the British team in great style.
P3!!! Amazing job from the team. Let’s go for it tomorrow. 👊

“I’m really looking forward to it," when asked on his thoughts on the race.
Yesterday our high fuel pace was one of our best of the year. It's still a long way behind these guys [Norris and Sainz] and the Mercedes who are starting behind us, so we're going to have a battle on our hands.”
The Briton has a good feeling with the track, as his Williams proved to be fast on the slippery circuit, especially on the straight lines.
“But we are pretty slippery on the straight, and have some nice straightline speed. So yeah, we’ve got to go for the podium again. It's nothing to lose.”
Russell has been the first to try and switch on to slicks on a drying asphalt and the call turned out to be perfect for the session, as he got to score the second third position in three top events.
“It is crazy, - he stated - It's the second time in the top three in three events, so the team have done an amazing job once again. We pitted at the right time, putting the right tyres on. But it was tricky out there. There's one dry line and, if you were just a couple of centimetres too wide, you will have been on the wet stuff and you will have been off.”
