Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN started the day with some shocking news when it was revealed that Kimi Räikkönen got a positive result on his COVID-19 test. The team called reserve driver Robert Kubica to step in for the Finn. Kubica, with less than an hour’s experience in the car under his belt, qualified P18.

But the best performance from the team was Giovinnazzi’s. They ended a thrilling day with the Italian driver’s best qualifying of the year, having him start on seventh place the race in Zandvoort circuit, equalling the best in his Formula 1 career.

“Today’s result feels really good, and I need to give big thanks to the team. We had a technical issue to a wheel nut between Q2 and Q3, but the crew did an amazing job: they did everything they could and they were able to put me back on track. Then I had to really push hard as I wanted to repay them for their work: the lap in Q3 was mega.

We will start from a good position in tomorrow’s race, we need to continue pushing, stay out of trouble and use this opportunity to bring home a good result,” said Giovinazzi.

Sunday’s race will be interesting, given that the start is a key moment in a circuit where overtaking is going to be difficult.
