F1 | Hungarian GP | Mazepin "It´s going to be a hard race."
Nikita Mazepin was the only Haas driver who made it to Qualy today. The young rookie expects a hard race tomorrow.
Nikita Mazepin was the only Haas driver who made it to Qualy today after his teammate´s accident in Fp3. The Russian will start from p19. MotorLat had access to a brief online meeting where he shared his opinions on today´s performance.
On being the only Haas in the grid he said “it doesn´t change anything obviously we knew going through Q2 was going to be really difficult…it didn´t change too much but it´s nicer when the full team is there.”
“I´ve built up a nice pace during the weekend…the track always evolves…it just gets better and better so I think it is important not to ask too much too soon from the car specially its lacking downforce compared to competitors specially at the mid of the grid…. I´m happy I didn´t get too eager too soon. My team is not so rich for losing parts and I don´t want to lose track time being in my rookie year so in this respect I´m happy and I´m also happy that in qualifying I did three laps and looking at it was 0.06 all these three laps difference. So I felt I was consistently hitting the limit”
When asked by MotorLat about his expectations for tomorrow and what result would make him happy before the summer break he said “it’s going to be a hard race. I think there´s going to be lot of managing there and I think it will be difficult to get pass anyone because this track doesn´t really allow you to overtake. So, that´s about it but I´m going to be very conservative with my expectations because it´s shown this year that the things you learn in Fp2 with the long runs changes on Sundays. So, I think we just need to wait and see.”
