Second consecutive pole position for Charles Leclerc, after the unfortunate one in Monaco a brilliant performance for the Monegasque and his team arrives in Baku.

A double incident that involved Yuki Tsunoda and Carlos Sainz at the end of the session closed qualifying early and delivered an Azerbaijan GP front row led by Leclerc and completed by Lewis Hamilton (+0.232), while Max Verstappen has to settle for the second row with the third quickest time.

Alongside the current leader of the driver's Championship there's a brilliant Pierre Gasly with his Alpha Tauri. For Carlos Sainz, behind the wheel of the car number 55, a third row together with Sergio Perez, after the penalty of three positions inflicted on Lando Norris' McLaren for not respecting the red flags.

After the fantastic pole position, the feelings perceived in Monaco drastically changed: “My heart was beating so fast, I thought it was not a good lap, overall I thought I was going faster. I was improving before the red flag, but that's okay," Charles Leclerc told the media.

"It's a great feeling," - continued the Monegasque - "But there was a red flag again, I hope to get a pole soon in a normal situation.

"The car feels good, but Mercedes and Red Bull have something more. We hope to keep the first position but it will be difficult. We were still surprised with our performance, we thought we would play more with McLaren or even behind, we consider them the our rivals," he added.

"Then after free practice we were surprised to see that we were ahead and we knew we could have something more in qualifying. Race pace? In Free Practice 2 we didn't have the pace of Red Bull and Mercedes, it won't be easy to keep them behind," Leclerc explained.
