After a quite controversial “exit” from Racing Point last year, Sergio Perez secured a one-year deal with Red Bull Racing, replacing Alexander Albon after he was “not able to perform to a standard set by the team”. Although Perez was also up to a rough start, so far collecting only half the points of his teammate Max Verstappen, who currently leads the drivers championship, the Mexican definitely delivered decent results in those past 5 races, that ultimately helped to put Red Bull on the first place in constructors championship.

In a recent interview with formel1.de Helmut Marko, the motorsports advisor to Red Bull, has revealed that the team did not yet evaluate their future lineup, saying that until at least the summer break the team will full on focus on the championship fight and think about the possibilities for the next season later on.

As he said: “We'll start thinking about it in the summer at the earliest. We are a very sought-after partner on the driver market. I don't think a driver will enter into negotiations or a deal with any other team until he has tried to come to an agreement with us. We are now fully focused on the world championship, and we don't see any problem there in terms of who will be Max Verstappen's teammate next year. It will certainly be a competitive guy. But there is still time.”

Helmut Marko felt satisfied with Checo’s performance during the Monaco GP, but he believes the Mexican still needs to improve over one lap, to be able to score better positions on the grid from the get-go. As he said about Perez in Monaco: "Let's start with the positive, that's the race performance. It’s very good, sometimes at Max's level. He proved that in Monte Carlo when we went for the overcut. That was three or four laps where he drove the fastest laps overall, with already very used tyres. So the race pace is there. The area where we're still lacking is in qualifying. We need to see an improvement there.”

During the interview, he was asked about the possibility of having Gasly back in the senior team of Red Bull by the next season. As we remember, Gasly was once already in RBR, but was demoted back to Alpha Tauri, replaced by Albon who was then fired and placed as a development driver after a year and a half in the senior team. As Marko said: "It's a contract that lets us place him in both Red Bull and AlphaTauri. The same thing applies here: we're not thinking about the [2022] drivers at the moment. We'll think it through during the summer break and then make our decisions."
