F1 | Emilia Romagna Gp | Lance Stroll “We took advantage of some opportunities”
The Canadian driver suffered from shift issues, but is “happy” with his race, as he said on his seventh place just before getting a penalty.
Aston Martin didn't have an easy weekend; starting from the qualifying session, in which only Lance Stroll managed to get through Q3. Both drivers suffered from brake issues just before the beginning of the race, with Sebastian Vettel who didn't even get to start the race from his qualifying position in P13 and had to do a come back from the pit lane.
Luckily, Stroll's car was appointed before the race and the Canadian was able to start from p10. He went on to have a quite good race and to put the car in p7, but got a penalty for cutting a corner while completing an overtake on Pierre Gasly.
Before the race direction communicated the penalty, Stroll talked about his performance, just after the end of the Emilia Romagna GP.
The Aston Martin driver was satisfied with the final result:"We took advantage of some opportunities today, the weather was going to make things a bit interesting out there." he said.
He believes the car has improved since last Gp, in which he had scored a enth place, but that there's still "some work to do" to be able to keep up with the other midfield teams: "The car was pretty well balanced this weekend but we are still lacking some pace if you look at the competition out there AlphaTauri, McLaren, they just look really quick so we have some work to do."
Just like his teammate, Stroll admitted to have shift issues. However, they weren't as serious as Vettel's, which forced the German driver to retire during the last lap: "It [the gear sync issue] was really killing me out there. I was getting all these poor shifts constantly throughout the race."
He concluded expressing his "happiness " with the final result: "I was happy we made it to the flag and managed to hold onto seventh as it was costing us a lot of lap time and quite worrying."
