F1 | Miami to join F1 calendar for season 2022
Just before the beginning of the Emilia Romagna GP, F1 has announced that Miami will join the calendar for 2022, under a 10-year deal.
What has been a speculation and a topic of talks and disagreements for quite a long time now has been announced as truth - F1, from 2022, will have a race hosted in Miami, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The bosses of Formula 1 have announced the Miami GP to have a 10-year deal, but the exact date of the first GP will be announced at a later time. As we remember, in its initial phase of talks, the idea of hosting a GP in Miami was met with complaints about potential traffic, noise levels and more, but it seems it has been finally all agreed on and ready to welcome the Queen of Motorsports.
It is said that the Miami GP circuit will be 5.41km, with 19 corners, 3 straights and potential 3 DRS zones, with an estimated top speed of 320 km/h. F1 and FIA are working with the promoter, that will build a brand new track in order to ensure the safety standards necessary for top class racing. The before mentioned Hard Rock Stadium, that is home to the Miami Dolphins, will be located at the heart of the new circuit. Additionally, F1 hopes the race will help to boost out the tourist and economic spheres in the greater Miami region, and will be working close with promoter of the GP to make sure residents of the area have access (via what can be assumed as discounted tickets, etc) to enjoy and experience Formula 1 for themselves, as well as opportunities for local businesses to be a part of the race weekend.
Miami GP will be the 11th location of an F1 race in the United States. Since 1950’s, F1 raced at Riverside, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas, Phoenix,Indianapolis and Circuit of the Americas in Austin.
In the original F1 statement, we can read the words of Stefano Domenicali, as well as Tom Garfinkel.
