Shortly after the unveiling of this season's car for sister team Alpha Tauri, Red Bull Racing has confirmed the 23rd of February as the release date for their new model, the RB16B. No further information on location or time has been disclosed, even though a pay-per-view virtual event involving the drivers and team principal Christian Horner and a charity auction has been planned for a while on the same day.

Red Bull ended the 2020 championship on a high note, scoring their second win at Abu Dhabi, last Gp of the season, with Max Verstappen, and achieving the second championship placement in the Constructor rankings, after a season with many retirements due to aerodynamic anomalies.

Verstappen, who is approaching his sixth season on the F1 grid and has recently signed a contract extension to race for Red Bull until 2023, will begin the new season with a different teammate, Sakir Gp winner Sergio Perez. The Milton Keynes-based team believes that the experience and the speed of the former Racing Point driver will be a useful asset in the fight against Mercedes for the constructors' championship. Perez will have the chance to test previous Red Bull cars next week at Silverstone. Former Red Bull driver Alexander Albon will take on the role of Reserve driver for Red Bull, and compete in the GMT championship alongside F2 driver and Red Bull Junior Team talent Liam Lawson.

The 2021 challenger will be the last one to use the Honda-branded engine, since the Japanese team decided to withdraw from F1 at the end of the season. In 2022, the Austrian team will project and brand their own engine, based on the Honda one, having reached an agreement with the other teams regarding the engine development freeze.
