F1 | Aston Martin to unveil their 2021 challenger on March 3rd
Aston Martin have announced that their first Formula 1 car since 1960 will be launched on March 3rd.
A day after Mercedes and Alpine will show off their 2021 cars, the newly rebranded Aston Martin Racing will reveal their car for the new season at 15:00 GMT on Wednesday the 3rd of March.
The team started out in 1991 as Jordan and are now under the famous Aston Martin name 30 years later thanks to the takeover led by Lawrence Stroll back in 2018.
It was a memorable final year for the team under the Racing Point name as Perez’s remarkable victory from the back of the field in Bahrain gave the team based at Silverstone their first win since Giancarlo Fisichella’s unusual maiden one at the 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix.
They narrowly missed out on P3 in the standings to McLaren after a season-long tussle with their British rivals and Renault. A 15-point deduction for copying the design of the brake ducts of Mercedes’ W10 ultimately proved very costly.
While Lance Stroll remains with the team for 2021, he’ll have a new teammate alongside him for the upcoming campaign in the form of Sebastian Vettel who took the spot of Sergio Perez. Both Stroll and Vettel head into the new season with points to prove, too.
The young Canadian took a superb first pole in Turkey and drove brilliantly in the Grand Prix until front wing damage caused his tyres to grain and fell away. However, Stroll also had wonderful opportunities to win at Monza and Sakhir and didn’t take them. The 22-year-old finished 50 points behind Perez in the standings.
Vettel was well and truly beaten by Charles Leclerc at Ferrari in 2020 as he finished 13th in the championship and 65 points adrift of his former teammate. A single podium in Turkey was pretty much the only highlight of a wretched season.
