Two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso has been discharged from Bern hospital. The Spanish driver, who will race in the upcoming season for Alpine (his third spell with the Enstone-based team) alongside French colleague Esteban Ocon, had been admitted on the 11th of February following a cycling accident. Swiss police, who are still investigating how it happened, confirmed that the Spanish driver collided with a motorist outside a supermarket car park while riding his bike.

Alpine released a statement the day after, stating that the two-times World Champion had successfully undergone corrective surgery for a fracture in his upper jaw, and that he was going to stay in observation at the hospital for 48 hours.

Alonso, according to his team, will now undergo a short period of total rest before resuming his preparation for the 2021 season. He is allegedly expected to take part in the approaching winter tests, set on March 12-14 in Bahrein, host of the season opener on March 28th after the reschedule of the Australian Gp.

The date of the unveiling of Alpine's new car, the A521, is still to be announced, with a black winter livery released in January as a tribute to the A500 F1 prototype from 1975.
