Campos Racing Team announced on social media

“Today is the saddest day in the history of Campos Racing. Our President and Founder, Adrián Campos Suñer, has left us.”

“His heart has stopped beating, but his memory will be the engine that will keep us all fighting to continue his legacy… Rest In Peace.”

Campos raced in the 1987 and 1988 Formula 1 seasons for Minardi (Italian racing team) making 17 race starts and finishing only 2 races (the 1987 Spanish Grand Prix and the 1988 San Marino Grand Prix) in a very unreliable car.

After Formula 1 he started competing in Spanish Touring Cars winning the championship in 1994.

In 1997 he founded Campos Racing signing drivers like Fernando Alonso (Formula 1 driver champion in 2005 and 2006 with Renault), Marc Gené (Former F1 driver and Ferrari test driver), Vitaly Petrov (Formula 1 podium finisher with Lotus), Lucas di Grassi (Formula E Champion in the 2016-2017 season) and Álex Palou (IndyCar driver).

Campos Racing competed in Euro Open by Nissan (later known as Formula Renault 3.5), in 2005 the team entered the GP2 Series, winning the Teams Championship in 2008 and making a move to F1 in 2010 named Campos Meta (renamed HRT F1 at the beginning of the season).

Adrián also got involved in Formula E partnering with NEXTEV TCR and winning the first driver championship with Nelson Piquet Jr.

Nowadays Campos Racing competes in Formula 2 and Formula 3.
