Davide Brivio left everyone "shocked" after his decision to leave Suzuki to switch to Formula 1 with Alpine.

On Wednesday, Davide Brivio was the center of interest for many after news regarding his move from MotoGP to Formula 1 was revealed exclusively by Motorsport.com.

Brivio left his role at Suzuki to move to F1 and become the CEO of Alpine in 2021.

On Thursday Suzuki confirmed the termination of relations with Brivio who has been able to follow the team since 2013, after twenty years with Yamaha both in MotoGP and in Superbike from 1990 to 2010.

In addition, Brivio led Suzuki to its first race win from 2007 to 2016 and Joan Mir was named MotoGP World Champion last season breaking a period of defeat.

The 2021 MotoGP season will begin on March 28 at the Qatar circuit as testing begins in just over a month and Suzuki finds itself without a Team Principal and with little time to find a solution.

Regarding the exit of Davide Brivio, Shinichi Sahara, Suzuki MotoGP project leader, admitted: "Sincerely, it was shocking news for us about Davide’s departure from Team Suzuki Ecstar,

"It feels like somebody took a part of me, because I always discussed with him how to develop the team and the bikes, and we’ve worked together for a long time.

"In 2020 we achieved fantastic results despite the unusual and difficult situation due to COVID-19.

"And 2021 will be an even more important year for us to keep the momentum. Now we are trying to find the best way to cover for the ‘Davide loss’.

"Luckily in most cases I have had quite a similar way of thinking to him, therefore it is not so difficult to keep the direction we should go as Team Suzuki Ecstar, I think.

"We would like to wish him the best of luck for the future" he concluded.

On the other hand, Brivio admits that his exit made him "sad" because he will have to leave the "fabulous group of people" who are part of Suzuki and admits that the proposal made by Alpine turned out to be a surprise "suddenly".

Renault has not yet expressed itself regarding Brivio's future in the team, but it is expected that confirmation as CEO of Alpine F1 will take place soon.

The current MotoGP World Champion, Joan Mir expressed himself on social media after Brivio's departure from the team, stating: "Thank you Davide Brivio for trusting me and helping me to achieve my dream and become MotoGP world champion. I wish you all the best in your new challenges."
