F1 | Bahrain GP | Sainz ‘’very angry’’ after Q2 brake failure
It was a bad Saturday for McLaren at the Sakhir circuit as they'll start in P9 and P15.
Carlos Sainz was left extremely frustrated and felt ''very angry’’ after a rear brake failure at the start of Q2 means he’ll start the race down in 15th place.
The Spaniard had looked strong throughout the day; he was 5th in FP3 and made it comfortably through Q1 after using just one set of tyres. However, his brake failure whilst trying to set a lap in Q2 has left him well out of position for the race.
"It leaves us with very few options if we have lost it [the set of tyres] with that lock up,” Sainz explained to Spanish broadcaster Movistar. “That's why I'm very angry, I'm sorry, but I'm very angry."
With all his main rivals starting on mediums in the top 10, as well as damaging his set of tyres following the failure, he expects a tough time to make progress tomorrow.
"Yes, you can come back, but it gets very complicated,” he said. “Especially because the top ten is going to start with the medium, and those of us who start behind them won't have any advantage over them.
“The two sets of medium I had saved... one will be ruined and I'm sure I can't even use it. Which puts me in a bit of a tough spot for the race. We worked hard to save harder tyres for the race and now this happens to us.”

On the other side of the garage, a mistake by Lando Norris leaves him down in 9th on the grid. The young Brit admitted he hasn’t a good lap in qualifying in some time as he ended up behind a Racing Point, the Renaults and an AlphaTauri.
“We were thinking about [Renault] but just doing the best job we could and we did that all the way to Q3, got in on the Mediums,” he said.
“Yeah, we had the pace to do P5, I think it was, but I made one mistake and it cost me the four positions that I wanted.
“I’m a bit frustrated… I dunno, I just haven’t done a good qualifying lap lately and it frustrates and annoys me a lot, so I’ll have to do a better job next week.”
