F1 | Bahrain GP | Hamilton clocks the fastest lap in FP1
The new seven-time world champion is the fastest in the FP1 in Bahrain, with his teammate Bottas and Perez in second and third position. Out of the top ten are Leclerc and Vettel.
Lewis Hamilton signs the fastest lap in FP1 ahead of the teammate Valtteri Bottas and of the Racing Point of Sergio Perez. Detached the two Ferrari, only in eleventh and twelfth position.
Sainz, Gasly, Verstappen, Albon, Ocon, Stroll and Ricciardo are the drivers that complete the top ten.
Robert Kubica, in for Kimi Räikkönen in FP1, outpaced teammate Antonio Giovinazzi as he ended up 13th quickest. Roy Nissany was P20 as he took George Russell's seat for the session.
Mercedes confirms its great competitiveness also on this track even if yesterday during the press conference Lewis Hamilton explained that Mercedes will use these 3 final races as a test ahead of 2021.
Good session for the two Racing Point, in particular for Sergio Perez, who is still without a seat for next year. The Mexican driver said in an interview that he is considering to do a year off if no one will offer him a contract.
Quite good session for the two Red Bull as well, in sixth and seventh position, with Verstappen ahead of Albon. The Dutchman had a spin as he flat-spotted his tyres.
More troubles apparently instead for Ferrari, after the good results obtained in the last race in Turkey. Leclerc ended his session in eleventh position, with Vettel just behind him. Leclerc also had a spin during FP1 as the SF1000 continues to be a difficult car to drive.
Concerning Ferrari, as in the last race weekend, team principal Mattia Binotto will not be present in the whole weekend here in Bahrain, as he's spending more time in the factory in Maranello to work on the car of next year.
For this GP, the race directors stressed before the beginning of FP1 that drivers who will go beyond the track limits on turn 4 will see their lap deleted.
