F1 | Turkish GP | Verstappen leads the way in FP1
The Dutch driver is the fastest in FP1, ahead of his teammate Albon and the Ferrari of Leclerc. Detached for the moment the two Mercedes', with Bottas only ninth and Hamilton fifteenth
The FP1 reports Max Verstappen as the fastest with the time of 1:35.077. Second place for his teammate Alexander Albon, and third position for Charles Leclerc.
Gasly, Vettel, Kvyat, Norris, Giovinazzi, Bottas and Ocon complete the top ten.
The first half of the session of the Turkish GP didn't give many track activities because of the poor conditions of the track, which has been wet before the session, causing in this way many problems to the drivers and the teams.
The decision to wet the track was taken to clean it, but it didn't manage to dry up before the start of the session.
Many drivers struggled to keep the control of the car since the cold track and the wet caused temperature problems with the tires. Bottas and Raikkonen in particular were the first drivers to try to go on track, but had a lot of problems with the balance of the car.
Fortunately, in the second half of the session in particular the conditions of the track improved and the drivers could begin doing fast laps as they laid more and more rubber down.
The two Mercedes didn't show all the potential of the car, with Bottas closing the session in ninth position and Hamilton only in fifteenth. Good signals instead from the two Red Bull and also from Ferrari, who placed its cars in third and fifth position.
Carlos Sainz was forced to stop his car with 25 minutes to go in the session because of some unknown technical problems on the car. The Spanish driver pulled off just before turn 7, causing the virtual safety car for a couple minutes.
Concerning the rules established for this race and this track, any driver that goes beyond the track limits on turn 1 will have their lap invalidated.
It was also confirmed during FP1 that George Russell would take a grid penalty for using extra elements on his engine. He'll be starting at the back on Sunday
