F1 | Agreement in sight for Interlagos as Vietnam will no longer be in the 2021 calendar
In the upcoming 2021 Formula 1 season, the Vietnam Grand Prix in Hanoi will not be held. On the other hand, the presence of Interlagos on the F1 calendar is almost certain, but still subject to contract.
As ESPN has learned, the Vietnam Grand Prix will not be part of the motorsport events within the Formula 1 calendar next year.
The race that should have taken place this year was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the appointment on the Hanoi track was scheduled to be renewed in 2021.
Following the arrest of Hanoi People's Committee chairman Nguyen Duc Chung, the presence of the Vietnam circuit in the 2021 F1 calendar has been denied and the possibility of hosting a Grand Prix in Vietnam in the future remains uncertain.
The circuit located east of Hanoi, half city circuit and the other half permanent, was concluded in February of this year and should have been the first new circuit to be added to the calendar by Liberty Media.
Furthermore, on April 25, the date on which the Vietnam Grand Prix was to be held, was left blank on the provisional calendar.
Obviously, other circuits have been considered that could replace the one in Hanoi. For example, the Sepang circuit in Malaysia or the Algarve circuit in Portugal, the Imola circuit in Italy and the Istanbul Park circuit in Turkey. Circuits that have helped to complete this year's calendar which has almost come to an end.
In addition, a 23rd race will be added, in Saudi Arabia which will take place at night and was confirmed last week.
After speculation about the circuit where the Brazilian Grand Prix will be held, it was declared that the annual appointment will continue to be held on the Interlagos one and not on the Rio de Janeiro circuit in 2021.
The Rio de Janeiro circuit has yet to be built and based on the plans made for the works, it emerged that thousands of trees in the Camboata forest are expected to be cut down for its construction.
There is talk of a five-year agreement with a new promoter at Interlagos and this means that Tamas Rohonyi, who had concluded an agreement with former CEO Bernie Ecclestone in 2017 to organize three races between 2018 and 2020 without paying a fee to Formula 1, will no longer be involved.
The provisional calendar for the 2021 Formula 1 season was announced today, with the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvort being part of a triple meeting with the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps and the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. Another triple meeting will collect the Grand Prix of Russia, Singapore and Japan.
As every year, the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne will kick off the F1 season which starts on March 21.
Formula 1 hopes that audience participation in the various circuits will be granted starting next year.

The provisional F1 calendar for 2021, along with those for the FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships, remains subject to approval by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council.
