F1 | AlphaTauri retains Pierre Gasly for 2021 F1 Season
Scuderia AlphaTauri has announced that Pierre Gasly will continue with the team for the 2021 Formula 1 season.
Scuderia AlphaTauri has announced that Pierre Gasly will continue with the team for the 2021 Formula 1 season. This decision keeps Pierre Gasly in the Red Bull family and in no way prevents any movement in 2021 if Red Bull choose to return the 24-year-old Frenchman to the senior team - Red Bull Racing. No word yet though on whether on Daniil Kvyat will remain alongside Gasly which leads many to speculate that surely the Yuki Tsunoda announcement must also be imminent.
Pierre Gasly joined AlphaTauri in its previous guise of Toro Rosso at the 2017 Malaysian Grand Prix, before moving to Red Bull Racing for the 2019 season. Gasly’s endeavours in the senior team have been well documented and as such the Frenchman returned to the sister team of Red Bull halfway through 2019. Since then Pierre Gasly has driven in the form of his life and made history winning the Italian Grand Prix – a race that no one shall forget.
At the time of today’s announcement, the official website www.scuderiaalphatauri.com shared the thoughts of Pierre Gasly regarding the retention of his seat for 2021:
“I’m extremely happy to continue with Scuderia AlphaTauri for another season! This year is going very well, and we are on track to have our most successful season in the team’s history. I feel we have a very strong relationship, we have managed to take every opportunity that’s come our way, the best one at the Italian Grand Prix. Winning my first Formula 1 race in Monza was a very special moment for me, and it was made extra sweet to deliver a second win in the team’s history, so I’m very proud of that. I’ll do my maximum to push the team and take all my responsibility to bring it as far forward as I can. I’m looking forward to next year’s challenge and continuing with AlphaTauri both as a premium fashion brand and a racing team, to keep performing as much as I can to achieve even more success in the future.”
Pierre Gasly, by his own admission to Sky Sports F1 after the Portuguese GP, is driving the best he has driven in F1. Therefore, it is no wonder that Franz Tost, Team Principal for Scuderia AlphaTauri, is delighted by the announcement:
“I’m delighted that Pierre will remain with us for the 2021 season. He has been part of the Red Bull driver pool for many years and I hope he will remain in the Red Bull family for many seasons ahead. Since he came back to the team last year, he consistently showed extremely good performances achieving two podiums, with a second place in Brazil in 2019 and a win at the team’s home race at this year’s Italian Grand Prix.”
“Pierre has proven to be highly competitive also thanks to his great race craft, extracting the car’s potential at every race and giving valuable feedback to his engineers. He is mentally very strong, he is always motivated and when he sets a goal he gives it his all to achieve it. I’m looking forward to extending this cooperation and having a successful 2021 season together.”
Pierre Gasly is a gentleman of the sport and only ever spoke favourably of Red Bull following his demotion and now such loyalty has been rewarded.
The 24-year-old Frenchman would have never expected to end the 2020 F1 season as a Grand Prix winner. Now, having amassed 63 points with 5 races to go and 9th position in the Drivers’ standings the real question is how high up the table Pierre Gasly will finish in 2020…and what further success awaits him in 2021.
