F1 | Portuguese GP | Charles Leclerc: ‘’A strong race’’
The driver of car 16 excelled once again with a 4th place finish.
Charles Leclerc has been one of the stars of the season and he continued his exceptional form at the Portuguese Grand Prix.
Having started 4th, the Monegasque driver struggled in the early laps on the mediums as he dropped to P8. However, after getting heat into his tyres, the two-time Grand Prix winner surged back through the pack to reclaim P4 by lap 12.
He had a boring race from there as he was too slow to challenge the cars in front and too fast for the rest to finish a very sold 4th. The twelve points he scored in Portugal leave him just five behind Daniel Ricciardo in the fight for 4th in the Drivers’ Championship.
Slow signs of progress are been shown by Ferrari and the 23-year-old is taking full advantage of it. Leclerc is encouraged by the progress and is pleased with his season in terms of driving so far.
"We had a strong race and we are seeing some progress, which is very encouraging for the whole team and for me personally. We worked very hard on our race pace and finally we have had a weekend with both a decent qualifying and a good race, so I am very pleased.
The first stint was tricky. In the first few laps I had to keep focused as I was losing quite a lot of positions because we started on the Mediums. Lap after lap we got back to where we wanted to be and it was amazing.
It’s good to see the progress the team is making race after race. If I look at my personal performance so far it has been a good season. I still have work to do, there are definitely a lot of things I still need to improve and I hope that looking back at this year I will remember it as a positive one."
Back home with a P4 !
