F1 | Russian GP | Sainz: "It's been a productive Friday"
The Mclaren driver managed to end his Friday in Sochi in fourth position, just behind the two Mercedes and Ricciardo. McLaren seems to have found competitiveness after the struggles in Mugello
Very good FP2 for Carlos Sainz, who finished his session in fourth position, behind the two Mercedes and the Renault of Daniel Ricciardo.
Sainz has been forced in the morning to lose part of his session, because of an off-track that he made crashing the rear of his car against the barriers.
The mechanics however managed to fix the car for the second session of free practice in the afternoon, where Sainz showed that McLaren can fight for important points on this track in the race.
The Spanish driver is happy because of the newfound competitiveness of the car after the debacle in Mugello.
“Despite losing much of FP1, I think it's been a productive Friday with an intense programme in the afternoon", told Sainz at the end of the day. "Thanks to the mechanics for fixing the car on time for FP2".
"We completed the tests we needed and the car balance looks closer to the rest of the season so far, which is a good sign after our struggles at Mugello. We seem to be back in the mix, but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see what we can do in quali.”
