F1 | Russian GP | Ricciardo: "Nice to see us high up today"
The Renault driver ended his Friday in third position, proving the great competitiveness of the car also on this track, after the good results in Monza and Mugello
Great Friday in Sochi for Daniel Ricciardo, who ended the FP1 in second position and the FP2 in third position, only one second behind the two Mercedes. Renault confirms so the steps forward of the last races, after the very good results in Monza and Mugello.
The Australian driver said to be happy with the competitiveness showed by the car on this track, where in the last years Ricciardo didn't manage to achieve great results.
It seems that, with the problems that Verstappen had today, Renault and Ricciardo could even fight for a podium on Sunday. But the Renault driver explained however that the qualifying tomorrow will not be easy.
“We keep on setting the time sheets alight on Friday, so it’s nice to see us high up again today", said Ricciardo. "It’s a circuit I’ve not had too much success or confidence on before, so it definitely gives me a boost".
"I learnt a lot and showed strong pace in every run. Looking ahead to tomorrow, I think it’ll be a lot closer especially between us and the teams that are about two to three tenths behind, so I think qualifying will be tightly contested. But I draw a lot of confidence from today and we’ll look to string it all together for the rest of the weekend”.
