The Italian will step into his new role by the end of the year, replacing Chace Carey, F1 CEO since Liberty Media entrance in 2017
The small rumour is becoming bigger and bigger as time goes by: Stefano Domenicali, former Ferrari team principal, is set to become new Formula 1 CEO, replacing Chase Carey.
The american enterpreneur was appointed chairman of Formula 1 back in 2017, when the american group Liberty Media finalised the acquisition from Bernie Ecclestone. Carey has transitioned the entire circus in this big change, which has brought new circuits to the calendar, a new Concoorde agreement, signed by all ten teams in August.
On the other side, Stefano Domenicali knows Formula 1 very well: the italian joined Ferrari in 1991, becoming its sporting director in 1998. He then took Jean Todt's position in 2008, becomig the Prancing Horse team principal until 2014. Domenicali also worked with FIA, becoming the head of the single seater commission, as well as working with Audi, to become then Lamborghini CEO.
Domenicali, who will step into his new position in December, will join Ferrari’s former colleagues: Jean Todt, FIA president since 2010, and Ross Brawn, F1 managing director since 2017. However Todt is set lo leave its role at the end of next year as he will not seek re-election.
Domenicali's entrance in its new role could mean a lot for the sports, as he knows very well how the circus works. Motorsport.com also clarifies that all ten teams have been informed of the news on Tusday.
