At Mugello, Valtteri Bottas leads the way in the first session of free practice ahead of Verstappen and Leclerc. Hamilton, Gasly, Ocon, Kvyat, Norris, Albon and Ricciardo complete the top ten.

Great session as always for Mercedes, with Bottas showing that the Silver Arrows can fit very well on every track. Even Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, however, in this session managed to put on track some fast laps that could mean a better weekend especially for Ferrari, after the debacle of Monza.

However, there are different feelings for the two Ferrari drivers on this track. If Leclerc managed to put the car in third position, Vettel ended his session only in thirteenth position. More difficulties so for the four times world champion, who said also in a team radio not to be happy with the sensations given by the car.

The two Ferrari went on track with a different livery designed only for this race weekend, to celebrate the 1000th Grand Prix for the historical Italian team. The livery presents a more intense red, with the writing '1000' at the top of the car.

Formula 1 makes a second stop in Italy, after the weekend in Monza last week when Pierre Gasly won his first race in F1 ahead of Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll.

But Mugello of course is going to be a very difficult race for both the drivers and the cars, because of the many lateral acceleration forces in turns like 'Arrabbiata 1' and 'Arrabbiata 2'. This is indeed the first time that the Great Circus run on the Mugello track.

Good session for the Renault, with Ocon in sixth position and Ricciardo in tenth.
