This weekend, we are heading to a circuit that has never been planned to be held on the official calendar of 2020 before the pandemic changes everything. Thanks to COVID-19, no one thought that the Ferrari-owned circuit in Italy will host the ninth round of the modified 2020 F1 season marking Ferrari's 1,000th race since the birth of the World Championship in 1950.

On July 10th, 2020, F1 officially announced plans to host the first-ever Grand Prix at the Mugello Circuit in Tuscany, Italy on September 13th, before heading to Russia for the Sochi Grand Prix.

At Circuit which is very popular of the Moto GP and never host F1 since 1974, who are the potential winners:

If we describe Mugello circuit, it is a fast and narrow track which have a bit similarity to Suzuki. The Italian circuit has a very favorable turn to Mercedes in its layout, the San Donato corner, the slowest corner at Turn 1 with 140kmh /90mph.

While its length is 5.245 km with 15 turns and a 1.141 km long straight. A long straight would be favorable for the prancing horse engine but it looks like not this year as their engine producing less power and torque this season.

Besides fast track, the track is twisty like Suzuki's, and the other part of the laps is spent at full throttle. Very special track with a high-speed corners, it will be demanding for tyres.

Last year, Mercedes won at Suzuka with Bottas, although Vettel was the polesitter.

Spa-Francorchamps is another circuit that has similarities to Mugello, however, we saw Lewis Hamilton gains a victory comfortably from Bottas this year, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished third.

Let’s not rule out that the mighty RB16 is fighting for the podium. We also expecting to see McLaren, Renault and Racing Point attacking from behind around the near-podium positions especially for those driver who has been racing at the circuit like Daniel Ricciardo in his early career of Formula Renault in 2007.

Let me add another fact, the current unofficial lap record for the 5.245-kilometre track is held by the Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, the driver who’s considered to be one of the greatest F1 drivers not to have won a world title. The record stands at 1 minute and 18.704 seconds, set during a secret testing in 2004 of the team seated on the Ferrari F2004, which had a V10 engine.

While the current official track record is set by Lewis Hamilton with the fastest lap in F1 history of 1 minute 18.887 seconds at the Italian Grand Prix a Monza Circuit this season.

Anyhow, Mattia Binotto is confident, however, of the recording being broken this season. He spoke of the times set in the testing last month, and how it was very similar to the record.

“We did a very similar lap time with full tank, not pushing, et cetera. So I’m pretty curious to see when we set the pole, I’m pretty sure it will be a record.”

He also added both Sebastian Vettel and Charles loved the track, and are gearing up to race in their home track. Binotto spoke highly of the track, but let’s see how it goes at their home-based circuit.

He also spoke about the circuit in general: “So it’s quite interesting to see all the Formula 1 car of today of going through there. We are used to seeing Moto GP there but I think that Formula 1 is at least 20 seconds faster than a Moto GP in such a circuit. I think it will be amazing.”
