From the start Bottas had lost his chance of challenging the top step of the podium. He had a very poor run down to the turn 1 as Max Verstappen of Red Bull and Lance Stroll of Racing Point F1 getting the much-needed slipstream to overthrow Valtteri off the podium position. Even though Valtteri gained back his position lost to so called last year’s Mercedes Finnish just had no answer to the pace top two.

Even after making pitstop,15 laps before the chequered flag, for the red striped Pirellis – the softest of the three compounds used for this week’s Spanish GP, Valtteri just couldn’t mount the much-needed charge at the Dutchman ahead

Even though it was Valtteri’s 50th career podium, expressing his feeling post-race, he was left disappointed by his performance and thinks and blamed poor start for his lonely race at third.

‘’Of course, this is very disappointing, I’m not here to finish third. The start was really the key point for my race – it just wasn’t good enough, so I lost a few positions.’’ Said Valtteri Bottas.

Bottas, thinks on a track like Barcelona where there are not many opportunities of overtaking the race was over for him at the start as driver behind him took benefit of the slipstream, he was giving them.

“We’ll have to look into what happened, but ultimately the guys behind me got a good tow and were able to overtake me. On a track like this, where overtaking in the race is so difficult and track position is everything, your race becomes very tricky if you lose places. So, I think with a different start the end result would have been very different.”

Explaining why he couldn’t mount a charge on his second stint even though he was on softs, Finnish blamed the dirty air of Max Verstappen’s car.

“In the first stint, I had to push hard to make up ground which worked fairly well. In stint two, I was pretty much right behind Max all the time, but it is so difficult to overtake here, and you need a really big-time difference.”

About his third pit stop Bottas said it was purely for the sake of extra point for the fastest lap of the and he had free pit stop so the team decided to take it.

“We had a free pit stop at the end, so I could pit for fresh tyres and got the fastest lap.”

Furthermore, Bottas hopes for a solid next race at Belgian GP and wants to get over the bad day today as quickly as possible.

“Overall, it wasn’t the race I had hoped for, but sometimes that’s just the way it goes. We’ll analyse everything from the race and move onto the next one.”
