F1 | Spanish GP | "Positive" day for Charles Leclerc, first of the two Ferraris
The Monegasque driver was the first driver between the two Ferraris in the FP1 and FP2 sessions.
The sixth Formula 1 race weekend has begun. The Spanish Grand Prix is preparing to begin with Friday's free practice sessions.
A more difficult weekend is expected at Ferrari than at Silverstone. On the SF1000 the higher load front wing will return, the one with which the Italian car started the season, coupled with the rear wing already used in Hungary.
This Friday's free practice sessions are over and Charles Leclerc was the first driver between the two Ferraris, finishing fourth and sixth.
In the morning both drivers ran first on hard tyre and then on soft tyre. Charles Leclerc set a 1’17”970.
After the 27 laps completed in the morning, the track temperature rose and it was close to 50 degrees.
In the afternoon, therefore, neither of the two Ferraris was able to find a suitable pace to improve their time, even though the track was more rubberised.
In the FP2 session, Leclerc, like Vettel, concentrated on setting up the car for the race by completing 35 laps.
“It has been quite a good day, once again better than expected, which is positive.
Speaking on the long-run pace he said: “Our quali pace was good, even though there's still some work to do here and there to improve, so I am confident we can extract the maximum out of the car in quali and if I manage to get the balance where I want it to be we can have a pretty good result.”
In addition, the Monegasque driver is declared in favour of the ban of "quali mode" which will start from Spa, even if the provision of the FIA will not impact on Ferrari.
“Also, the race simulation we did went fairly well. We have a lot of data on this track from winter testing, but it’s very difficult to compare it with the data we gathered today in such different conditions. With regards to the heat, out on track is not that hard because at least there’s some air, but when you are in the garage it’s like being in a sauna!” he concluded.
