F1 | Almost 30.000 fans set to attend the Russian GP
The Russian Grand Prix will be held with fans and at least 30,000 people will be counted to attend the Formula 1 weekend.
Formula 1 debuted this 2020 season late due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. All the races in the motorsport category were managed as closed-door events as the health safety measures required a small number of people within the F1 environment, as well as reductions were made regarding the staff of the teams.
Further proposals are underway to bring a minimum number of fans back to the stands to attend the races and this could happen as early as the beginning of September with the Tuscan Grand Prix, at Mugello.
Although tickets for the Russian Grand Prix, which will take place in Sochi on September 27, are on sale.
As for the Russian Grand Prix, the promoters of the Sochi circuit are trying to occupy 50% of the capacity of the stands and therefore around 30,000 spectators will be counted.
Alexey Titov, the Executive Director of Russian Grand Prix promoter Rosgonki, said in an interview: “For three months we have not been engaged in ticket sales at all,
“Now they are slowly resuming, taking into account the government's announcement that the race will take place, and with our recent announcement of the entertainment program,
“It is probably premature to talk about the current number of sold tickets. But the picture is more clear about general restrictions due to coronavirus situation.
“At the moment, we’re discussing the figure of 50% of the total capacity of the Olympic Park - that is, our stands and the Olympic Park as a whole.
“This will mean that the maximum number of fans will be no more than 30,000 to 32,000.”
The Formula 1 organization is implementing strict health measures to prevent the spread of the virus. A screening of the paddock was adopted after three people in it tested positive and among these there is also the Racing Point team driver, Sergio Perez.
The teams have been turned away from each other and entry to the paddock for journalists has been forbidden. Despite the idea of being able to allow fans to watch the Sochi Grand Prix, Alexey Titov announced that the strict measures imposed in the paddock will remain the same and other events that would be held during the race weekend, such as the walk in the pit lane, will be deleted from the program.
“This year, the Grand Prix will definitely not be a usual one,
“Yes, we will have spectators, but there will be no events such as a pit walk. There will be no autograph sessions. In the near future, we will definitely announce how we will replace this part of the entertainment program.” he added.
“We have several ideas, the details of which we are now finalising with Formula 1, but of course there will be certain replacements.
“There will not be the usual press opportunities in the paddock, because the paddock will remain closed. The FIA coronavirus protocol will also apply here.
“From this point of view, the race in Russia will be no different from other races. Only difference is that the fans can come to the stands and cheer for their favourite drivers.”
