A double weekend on the same circuit can be helpful, but also very boring: thankfully, the first appointment on the British venue of Silverstone has gifted us with lots of surprises, especially in the last few laps, where Valtteri Bottas and Carlos Sainz lost their positions due to tyres failure, while Lewis Hamilton won the race on just three tyres. 

Into this mess, the one who has benefited from other's issues, is, just like in Austria, Charles Leclerc: it is clear that this season's challenger is not Ferrari's best, and there is still a lot work to do to keep the pace with their biggest challengers, Mercedes and Red Bull, but also, their challengers from the midfield.

It feels like Ferrari is now lost in the middle ground of the standings: Red Bull has, as usual, proclamed itself like the biggest challenger for Mercedes, but, as it has already happened in previous seasons, struggles to be that competitive, and only Max Verstappen is trying to stick to Bottas and Hamilton's wastes, while Alex Albon is lost somewhere in the midfield with issues and rumours around his seat. The other two Mercedes, camouflaged in pink, the Racing Point, are very strong on paper, but never capable of really being a problem on track: the regualtions are already exhausted, leading Formula 1 to a photocopy season in 2021, so it is obvious that the RP20 (or W10, as many call it) can't be upgraded that much. 

Upgrades are the only hope for Ferrari to turn this 2020 season upside down and try to steal as many points as possible: Charles Leclerc, as previously said, is in a good place, as he scored two unexpected podiums in two races characterized by Safety Cars and many DNFs. At the same time, in Hungary, Vettel was the one who best suited the track and the car. He finished 6th, while Leclerc was 11th, but both were lapped by race leader and winner Lewis Hamilton. 

“Certainly we are behind Mercedes and Red Bull. I think we are very close to the others" admitted Mattia Binotto to motosport.com. 

The Team Principal, former Technical director, also spoke about the package brought to Silverstone: “Here we brought a low downforce package which was worth a couple of tenths in optimising our package. But I think it's pretty close.

“There will be races where we are closer and others where we eventually stay ahead. So it is our task, our duty, to develop the car" continued the italian. 

“I think certainly with Charles we optimised the package and we extracted most of the potential from the car, and a great race, so pretty happy in that respect.

“I think we generally worked well through the weekend, on the circuit, on the aero package, and on the tyre management" he said, as Leclerc scored another podium in Silverstone, but the situation was completely the opposite for the four time world champion Sebastian Vettel. 

“We cannot be happy with the problems we have on Friday, which are reliability problems and installation problems, which simply did not help the situation of Sebastian. So the weekend has not been a perfect weekend on our side.

“That's leaving aside the overall performance of the car, which at the moment is not great enough. So the weekend has not been overall perfect. While there have been great things there have also been negative ones as well.”
