Hungarian GP | Valtteri Bottas tops FP3 ahead of Hamilton and Perez
Mercedes keeps displaying its superiority at the Hungaroring ahead of qualifying.
Valtteri Bottas tops FP3 ahead of Lewis Hamilton by a mere 0.042s. Mercedes shine bright on Hungarian turf heading towards qualifying, regardless of track and weather conditions. Despite the incumbent presence of ominous gray clouds, FP3 was run on dry asphalt.
Racing Point keeps building momentum with Sergio Perez’s third quickest laptime, only 0.161s off the pace. Charles Leclerc closed the session in P4, giving Ferrari fans a glimmer of hope following the struggles endured in Austria. The Monegasque stands over three tenths off the top, ahead of Lance Stroll’s Racing Point.
Max Verstappen appears to be struggling more than expected. The Dutchman has not displayed any major strengths in Hungary, yet he cannot be ruled out, setting the sixth quickest time (+0.647), edging out McLaren’s own Lando Norris and Sebastian Vettel, the leader of yesterday’s wet FP2. The German seems to suffer in the third sector, which caused him to be stuck nearly one second off the pace. Pierre Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo round up the Top-10, pushing Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon out of the virtual Q3.
An impressive George Russell ended FP3 in P14 (+1.410), ahead of the Haas duo and Daniil Kvyat. Both Alfa Romeos still navigate on the high seas with Giovinazzi in P18 and Raikkonen in P19. Nicholas Latifi stands in P20, a little over 2 seconds behind.
