Two Italian Grands Prix in 2020? Imola and Mugello are on the list
The presence of the Italian GP in Monza was confirmed for early September according to the calendar published on Tuesday by Formula 1.
Formula 1 is ready to return to the track after the long stop due to the coronavirus. The 2020 season will start from the Austrian GP as previously agreed.
Among the races scheduled there is also the Italian Grand Prix, despite the repercussions of the coronavirus on the nation. The Monza Grand Prix is scheduled for September 6 and his contract has been extended for another year, until 2025.
In addition to the confirmation of the Monza Grand Prix behind closed doors, the president of the ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, and Liberty Media are working on the possibility of a second Italian GP that could take place in Imola or Mugello.
The first part of the 2020 calendar is quite clear as regards the conduct of the races on the continental level and, for the moment, has eight races in Europe.
Formula 1 and the FIA have announced double races. This is the case for Austria and England. In fact, the first two race weekends - 5 and 12 July - will be held on the Red Bull Ring track. After the Hungarian Grand Prix - July 17th - other two race weekends will take place in Silverstone on August 2nd and August 9th.
There was also talk of stops in Russia and Azerbaijan between mid and late September then moving to Asia, America and leading to the end of the season in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.
The work to transform the streets of the city of Baku into a circuit requires many weeks of interventions that can only take place if an audience will be scheduled for the GP.
If all this could not be possible they start talking about a second GP in Italian territory always behind closed doors.
Imola is on the list for an Italian encore, which has not appeared in the Formula 1 calendar since 2006, although Ferrari-owned Mugello seems to fall within the parameters for a question of logistics and geographical area.
