Russell poised for Mercedes drive in 2021
Mercedes will support the young Englishman giving him the seat next to Lewis Hamilton, while Toto Wolff will be in charge of fixing Bottas. For Mercedes Vettel is not of any interest.
Mercedes has clear ideas for 2021: the line-up of drivers will be that formed by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
The team from Brackley, therefore, wants to promote its young talents, so the Englishman who is parked by Toto Wolff at Williams for the second year of maturity, will finally have his great opportunity to get on the silver arrow.
This information leads us to another observation: Mercedes is not interested in Sebastian Vettel. His German passport and four world titles in his pocket are not enough. Every day that passes, Seb realizes that he has taken the wrong decision deciding not to continue his activity with Ferrari, even if only for a year and earning much less.
The second news that emerges from this context is that Valtteri Bottas will be fired by Mercedes whatever result he gets in this 2020 world championship: let's not forget the Finnish is vice world champion.
Toto Wolff, so far, has let the market unfold without his hand, but now he is expected to enter the field.
With the contract renewal of Toto with Mercedes will also come that of Lewis who is playing his game to keep the engagement high despite the Coronavirus has imposed on everyone an important cut in terms of salary.
Valtteri, therefore, will become the sacrificial lamb of Mercedes and could have several opportunities: to be shot at Aston Martin Racing (Racing Point) if it frees up the position of Lance Stroll, always less interested in extending his F1 career to satisfy the passion of his father.
Otherwise, the alternative will be Renault: the Finn could steal the seat to Fernando Alonso, around whom a great interest has sparked in the last few days, for the return of the Asturian to the team with which he won two world titles.
And Sebastian Vettel? Williams would welcome him warmly, but leaving Ferrari will prove to have been a really bad decision.
