F1 teams united in “Project Pitlane” to manufacture medical devices
Formula 1 teams, whose bases located in Britain, engaged in the production of medical devices to help in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
While Formula 1 is on "the quarantine vacation", teams don’t waste time.
Seven UK-based F1 teams - Red Bull, Racing Point, Haas, McLaren, Mercedes, Renault, Williams - joined their forces and created a project called "Project Pitlane", that aims to manufacture and deliver respiratory devices for UK people.
Following decisions taken this week by the UK Government, "Project Pitlane" is focussed on three workstreams. These workstreams vary in scope from reverse engineering existing medical devices, to support in scaling the production of existing ventilator designs as part of the Ventilator Challenge UK consortium, to the rapid design and prototype manufacture of a new device for certification and subsequent production.
Also the "Project Pitlane" activities are now designed to meet clearly defined goals. A group of seven teams is ready to help in other areas that require rapid and innovative responses related to the coronavirus pandemic.
